The Virginia Department of Public Utilities is developing a list of qualified BOILER OPERATORS to fill future openings at our cogeneration plant. We have one of the world’s largest municipal steam heat systems and offer interesting and challenging work for innovative and motivated operators. Our system recently expanded to a wood-fired boiler in addition to our coal- and gas-fired boilers. A lot of exciting changes are happening at Virginia Public Utilities and we’d like you to be a part of it!

We have 4 levels of boiler operator positions:

  • Fireman Trainee/Helper - requires Class B drivers license, Special engineer's license and 2nd Class A within one year

  • Fireman II - requires 2nd Class A engineer’s license and Class B drivers license

  • Operator I - requires 1st Class A engineer’s license

  • Operator II & Relief Operator - requires Chief A engineer’s license

  • All positions call for experience in operating high pressure boilers and turbines in a cogeneration power plant. Shift work is required. We offer a generous pay and benefits package. 

    Interested persons should complete a Virginia Department of Public Utilities job application form and submit it with a current resume and proof of licensure.
